Our dog guide walks you through a pared down checklist of things we consider essential in preparing your home for a new puppy or adopted dog. All our products are highly researched from dog harnesses to dog treats and pet carriers you can use in the car.
Should you train your dog with treats? We recommend you do at the beginning to build good behaviour. This is part of positive reinforcement for the dog. Here are the best training dog treats and treat pouches for puppies as well as leash-reactive dogs.
Your new dog needs to eat 😊. Shop our list of dog bowls. We've included slow dog feeders in these options in case they eat too quickly or to help brachycephalic breeds so that they do not choke or throw up after eating.
Are dog pee pads a good idea? We think so if used so you can transition from pee pads to outdoor. Here are smaller-sized dog pee pads.
Dog toys and chews are quite integral to keeping your dog mentally stimulated and in the case of chews help clean teeth. These toys and chews will keep your pooch happy and provide enrichment either in the case of toys for dogs to chase, throw or chew.
Congratulations on the new family addition! Having a dog can be a wonderful blessing. However, it can also be quite overwhelming even for those who have had a dog before. Here are our suggestions to help with this new transition.
You could get your dog a new bed.
However, in the beginning we normally recommend that you get to know your puppy or new adopted dog in terms of their chew habits. Puppies can tear up beds so that might not be a good investment. We suggest using an old towel or blanket to provide a comfortable sleeping environment and then graduate to a bed when you are sure your new family dog won’t chew the bed
